A first look at the new hybrid and electric Citroen C5 Aircross

At the Paris Motor Show, Citroen gave a first preview of what the new generation of C5 Aircross. Based on Stellantis Group’s STLA Medium platform, the five-seater C-segment SUV will have to contend with competitors such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson, as well as various domestic rivals such as the Jeep Compass and Alfa Romeo Tonale.

But what will its definitive appearance be? Let’s try to imagine it with our own render.

A “series” prototype

Our render takes inspiration from concept shown in Paris. As futuristic as it is, the prototype takes up several stylistic elements present on the most recent Citroens and it is also for this reason that we think that the production model will have a fairly similar look.

Space, therefore, for taut and broken lines, especially at the front, where the Citroen logo stands out in the center of the grille and the very thin headlights on two levels. The lower grille is also very square, while on the sides we find large ones circles at least 19″-20″. The rear should also take up the look of the concept, with a flat “tail” and a large tailgate to allow loading luggage more easily.

Regarding the dimensions, the concept is long 4,65 m (+15 cm compared to the current C5 Aircross) and 1.66 m tall. Two values that we could find on the series model.

Engines and prices

Overall, the aesthetics of the Citroen have been designed to be as aerodynamic as possible, so much so that flaps and air intakes have been integrated into various parts of the car. This has important consequences on the overall efficiency of the car, regardless of the type of fuel.

Speaking of enginesthe new C5 Aircross will have a rather complete range. We could find mild hybrid petrol versions, petrol plug-in hybrids and – for the first time – even 100% electric.

Difficult to see a confirmation of 1.5 BlueHDi diesel 131 HP, while the power of the other versions could grow. The electric should share the engines and battery of the Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008, with power outputs of 213 HP (and 320 HP in the dual-motor versions) and autonomy exceeding 500 km.

I prices? We expect a base price list of around 40-42,000 euros for the mild hybrids, while the electric ones could start from 50,000 euros. The plug-in hybrids could be positioned in the middle, around 45-47,000 euros.
