Build a flower wall from a pallet – with these instructions you will succeed!

For a flower wall built from a pallet, you can use board and screws left over from other projects. About a liter of paint is used for the project.

A screwdriver, a chainsaw and a staple gun make nailing easier and faster, but just a screwdriver and hand saw will also do. Riveting is a work step that can be omitted completely if you wish.

By choosing the paint and flowers you like, you can make a flower wall that fits your yard. We used Cello Cover cover paint in Tikkurila gray shade N499 to paint the pallet of this thing.

Most of the pallets are made of untreated wood, which cannot withstand moisture for a long time. Before painting, the pallet should be protected with wood protection, so that you can enjoy the flower wall in future summers as well.

The sight screen built from the pallet is great for the edge of the terrace or in the garden as a space divider.

Supplies:

  • pallet
  • chainsaw or hand saw
  • About 4.5 meters of unprotected sawn board
  • protective plastic or fabric that you can use to protect the painting surface
  • screwdriver or screwdriver and screwdriver head size T20
  • 26 stainless steel screws, size 4.0 x 45 mm
  • 1 liter of priming wood protection paint
  • 0.9 liters of cover paint
  • brush, about 4 cm wide
  • 6 pieces of approx. 50 cm x 30 cm pieces of landscaping fabric
  • staple gun
  • 18 summer flower seedlings
  • summer flower mulch
  • scissors
  • planting spade

Build a flower wall from a pallet like this:

  1. Saw three pieces of board that will be used to make the bottoms of the planter boxes. Measure the pieces that fit the width of your pallet.
  2. Saw two pieces of board about 70 cm long, which will be used to make the legs.
  3. Apply the protective plastic to the place where you can start painting. If the ground is uneven and the pallet does not stay upright, you can spread the protective plastic next to the tree and place the pallet on a leaning tree trunk. The loading platform can also be placed against the house wall, but protect the wall with plastic so that it does not get stained with paint.
  4. Paint the pallet and all the sawn boards with a wood protection primer so that the flower wall can last longer outside without getting moldy. Let it dry for a day or as long as the primer jar instructs.
  5. Screw the bottom boards of the planter boxes with six screws per board. There are two screws at the end of each board and two screws in the middle of the board. Be careful not to screw too deeply, so that the wood does not split. Build the flower wall upside down so that the bottoms of the planter boxes remain upwards during the construction phase.
  6. Fasten the legs in place with four screws per board. Screw the boards from their centers to the ends of the uppermost base board. Now the body is ready.
  7. Paint the flower wall with gray exterior paint. You should choose a small brush so you can paint all the gaps. Let dry for a day.
  8. When the paint on the flower wall has dried, you can turn it right side up on its feet. Line the planter boxes with landscaping fabric. Place pieces of fabric approximately 50 cm x 30 cm inside the planter boxes and, if desired, staple the fabrics together with a few staples using a staple gun.
  9. Put soil in the planting boxes and plant the flowers or herbs you want. Water the plantings regularly. The flower wall should be kept indoors in the winter.
