Silvan Wallner explained his reasons why he decided to quit football.
The young Swiss only transferred from FC Zürich to the Austrian first league club Blau-Weiss Linz on September 5 of this year and managed to play five league matches for the team from Upper Austria. His contract was terminated early and the club did not disclose the details of this move.
In a statement released by his former club, Wallner explained that he is a devout Christian and wants to follow Jesus Christ, and the biblical day of rest has become very important to him.
Read Wallner’s full statement as published by krone.at: First of all, it is important for me to thank the responsible persons, the employees and the entire team of Blau-Weiss Linz. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to all the people who have accompanied and supported me in my sports career so far. I am a devout Christian and I read the Bible. I make decisions for my life myself. Besides, I am not yet a member of the church. I want to follow Jesus Christ and the biblical day of rest has become important to me. For me as a professional, this means that from now on I don’t want to play football on Saturdays. It is my personal belief that I have come to in the last few days.”
Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church are prohibited from working on Saturdays. However, as the Blau-Weiss Linz matches are usually scheduled for this day, a serious problem arose for Wallner. Now he solved it.
