30-year-old Rico Krieger was found guilty of violating six articles of the criminal law at a secret court hearing held at the end of June.
The trial took place behind closed doors, and it is not yet known exactly what he was accused of.
The media controlled by the dictator Alexander Lukashenko’s regime have not reported anything about this case.
However, “Vyasna” admits that the accusations could be related to Kastus Kalinouska’s regiment, a Belarusian volunteer unit fighting against Russian invaders in Ukraine.
“Vyasna” reports that Krieger worked for the German Red Cross as a lifeguard, as well as a security guard at the US Embassy in Berlin.
Belarus is the only European country that applies the death penalty.
