Even if being fired from the club is certainly not a very pleasant matter, Haga can at least enjoy the hefty severance package he will receive from the Red Devils. According to the Daily Mail, the Dutchman’s golden parachute is worth £15m (€18m).

Only a few months have passed since the Hag extended his contract with Manchester United. According to her, he should have stayed at Old Trafford until June 2026, i.e. another two years.

However, the results in the new season were disastrous for the famous club. 14th place in the Premier League and up to 21st position in the Europa League are definitely not satisfactory.

But the Dutch coach had a very lucrative contract in Manchester, thanks to which he was supposed to earn 6.75 million pounds (8 million euros) a year. Immediately after the announcement that he was done with the English big club, he went to the airport and traveled back home to Amsterdam.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the United footballers should have learned about the firing of the coach only from the official statement that the club released to the general public.

“Erik has left his role as United coach. He led the club to two domestic cups – he won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup with him. We are grateful to him for everything he did with us during his tenure. We wish him the best of luck in the future,” the club’s website reads.

His assistant and former gunner of the Red Devils and the Dutch national team, Ruud van Nistelrooy, became the temporary successor to Haga. According to the English media, among the biggest candidates for the vacant post are Thomas Frank, Edin Terzič, Ruben Amori and former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández.
