A gunman tried to kill Donald Trump again: the police intervened at the last moment

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as Vem Miller, was arrested at a checkpoint about half a mile from the entrance to the rally. THE they found a loaded shotgun, a handgun and a high-capacity magazine on the man, as well as forged press and VIP permits. Speaking to local media, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said:

We probably prevented another assassination attempt.

The police chief added that the fake licenses were “different enough to alarm the deputies.”

Authorities say Miller is believed to be a member of a right-wing anti-government organization and may have planned to kill Trump. The suspect has a master’s degree from UCLA and is running for the Nevada state assembly in 2022, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports. According to police records, Miller was taken into custody for possession of a loaded firearm and a high-capacity companion. The suspect was later released on $5,000 bail.

The incident once again highlights the security challenges of political events, especially for former presidents.

According to reports, the authorities continue to monitor possible threats with increased vigilance and try to prevent similar incidents. It should be remembered that this year the American authorities have already intercepted several assassination attempts planned against the former president. In July, a gunman was able to shoot at Trump, but he escaped the incident with minor injuries by only millimeters.
