A man has set fire inside the Santo Spirito hospital in Rome; the smoke invaded a room in the Haemodynamics department and the corridor but the fire was immediately limited to the filter area, preventing it from reaching other areas. The person responsible, a 66-year-old, who was not one of the hospitalized, was stopped by the police; the causes of the act are currently under investigation, the management has made it known that the fire did not cause injuries or cause any structural damage.

It happened this afternoon, November 23rd. The fire alarm went off immediately; In addition to the firefighters, the carabinieri from the Compagnia San Pietro and the Nucleo Radiomobile arrived on site. The 66-year-old was quickly identified and stopped; according to initial reconstructions he would have set fire to some baskets full of paper inside the Hemodynamics room, on the third floor of the structure. Hospital technicians are working to restore the damaged equipment.

The ASL Roma 1, with a note, announced that, regarding the fire in the Santo Spirito hospital, “the flames were limited to the filter area and there was no damage to the patients or structures” and it was not necessary to evacuate the patients.
