Czech goalkeeper Matěj Pavlovic will not forget this weekend. He succeeded in a hussar’s trick. In the university league match between the Prague team ČZU Farmers and Riders Univerzita Pardubice with a score of 3:1, he took possession of the thrown puck and sent it into the empty net with a shot across the rink.
“I did not expect that something like this could happen at all. I’m really happy about that. I am experiencing enormous euphoria,” says Pavlovic in an interview for sport.cz.
He admitted that when the opponents called off the goalkeeper at 3:1, he did not think that he could try to score a goal.
However, he realized that he had enough time and space to try the shot.
“Nobody attacked me. I took the puck from the catcher and tried to hit it with the stick,” says the happy goalkeeper.

He chose the ideal direction and height, as none of the opponents could catch the puck.
“The ice was already in a very bad condition. It seemed to me that the puck was going to go wide, but apparently it bounced on some bump or groove and went into the left post. All the saints stood by me,” joked Pavlovic.
At first, he didn’t know how to celebrate the unexpected moment. However, it suddenly occurred to him that he would go and chat with his teammates on the changing table.
“I mainly wanted to enjoy this unique moment,” described Pavlovic.
He became the first goalkeeper in the history of the University League to score a goal.
“My father told me that he had been waiting for this moment all his life. Brat plays in attack and he has already seen him score a lot of goals, but he wanted to enjoy at least one of mine as well,” adds the 19-year-old goalkeeper.
