The Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse is now free to use.
The Disney-owned Mickey Mouse character was released to the public at the beginning of this year. Minni Hiiri also became a public domain character.
Naturally, there will be several financings, one of which has now received the first teaser trailer. Screamboat is a horror slasher based on Mickey Mouse’s earliest version known from the 1928 film Steamboat Willie, which can be used freely without copyright compensation. The later and more modern-looking versions of Mickey Mouse are still owned by Disney.
Screamboat will be premiered in 2025 and will be produced by the production team known from the films Terrifier 2 and The Mean One.
The movie was directed by Steven LaMorte and its killer mouse is played by Terrifier star David Howard Thornton.
Also included are Allison Pittel (Stream), Amy Schumacher (The Mean One), Jesse Posey (Teen Wolf), Jesse Kove (Cobra Kai), Rumi C Jean-Louis (Hightown), Jarlath Conroy (Day of the Dead) and Charles Edwin Powell (The Exorcist 3).
