American athlete Noah Lyles became the winner of the 100 at the Olympic Games in Paris with a performance of 9.79 s. In the final, he beat the Jamaican Kishane Thompson by only five thousandths of a second. American Fred Kerley finished third in 9.81.

The reigning world champion in the shortest sprint from Budapest improved his personal record. He added a second medal from under the five circles to his collection, in Tokyo he won bronze in the two hundred.
He secured the first gold for the USA in the most watched discipline of the Olympic Games since Athens 2004, when Justin Gatlin triumphed.
Thompson arrived in Paris as the leader of the world charts, two hundredths of a second behind the best time of the year. He won his first ever medal at the top event.
Kerley added the second valuable metal from the Olympics to his account, in Tokyo he took second place behind the Italian Marcello Jacobs, who finished in 5th place in Paris with a performance of 9.85.
All the sprinters in the Paris metropolis got under ten seconds, which happened for the first time in history.
