Balázs Háromfai from Százhalombatta is only 28 years old, but he is the owner of one of the most exciting and successful Hungarian companies, Biobubi.
Since his youth, he has been driven by the protection of the environment and the spirit of entrepreneurship, in the spirit of this, he started working with environmentally friendly car cosmetics after his high school years, then he tried a small muesli packaging factory, and in the meantime the idea matured in him: what if he started selling environmentally friendly cleaning products, whose packaging material is also as sustainable as possible I would treat it in the greenest way.
Cleaning products and webshop, with perseverance and a student loan
Customers would return the bottles to him, and he would refill them, and the damaged ones would be made reusable in a processor, further reducing the environmental impact.
We assessed whether there is any viable demand for people in and around Érd to buy environmentally friendly cleaning products in returnable bottles. More than 50 orders were negotiated without the products being manufactured yet, which is a nice result, but dwarfed by the current number of orders of 5-6 thousand per month, which are already delivered to the entire country.
– the founder of Biobubi told Economx.
He added: he has been dealing with marketing since the beginning, learned to use some graphics programs and designed online advertisements. But it is also part of the truth: he took out some personal loans, and his partner, who is now his wife, also cashed in his student loan
At first, the waste-free cleaning products were only delivered to homes by car, over time they switched to the webshop, and now more than 90 percent of the products are sold there.
The company offers a wide range of cleaning products, from window cleaner to washing-up and dishwashing detergents and soaps. Ordering online in the webshop is a breeze. The products reach all corners of the country with the help of large carriers, and you can even choose home delivery without packaging, in addition to the fact that empty bottles can also be returned with couriers and parcel machines.
- Biobubi is steadily growing in the cleaning products market thanks to their effective products, which have a real fan base on social media.
- In addition to environmentally friendly products, their other trump card is clearly the aforementioned return system.
- Customers can also return the empty bottles to the company free of charge via the parcel delivery service, which cleans and refills some of the bottles, which is not suitable for this, regranulates them and puts them back into use.
Uncompromising sustainability
In this way, the customers receive a cleaning product whose content does not harm the environment when used appropriately, and the returned bottles also remain in the green cycle, which also protects nature from unnecessary packaging materials.
The key word is uncompromising sustainability. Masses of people are happy to use an environmentally friendly product, if it does not involve effort and a serious financial outlay. Those who choose Biobubi do not have to compromise. It is enough to collect the bottles, which we will transport at our own expense
Balázs Háromfai explained to our paper. It can also be seen that most of their customers are eco-conscious, more than 80 percent of them return the bottles, freeing the environment from hundreds of kilos of plastic per week.
Biobubi’s total sales revenue of a few million at the time of its launch in 2019 is steadily increasing, and in 2024, they expect a turnover of HUF 700 million. This is also a big word because Balázs Háromfai built a large family garage company with the help of his two co-owners, who joined the team in the meantime.
More than 35,000 households have already bought their eco-cleaning products, three out of ten people are repeat consumers, which is an outstanding ratio in the market segment.
The goal is clear, the company wants to take the lead in the market of environmentally friendly cleaning products. To this end, they are constantly expanding the product range and would eventually sell it abroad.
