Kia has surprised at SEMA 2024 presenting two curious electric concepts with a post-apocalyptic design and adventurous spirit: the ‘EV9 ADVNTR’ and the ‘PV5 WKNDR’. The first is an electric SUV based on the Kia EV9, while the second is an off-road version of one of the new Kia Special Purpose Vehicles (PBV)the PV5.
This striking camper solution with an electric heart, designed to make the most of interior space and equipped with technology that promises self-sufficiency in any corner of the world, has attracted particular attention. With these models, Kia ups the ante on creative solutions “to enjoy nature with zero emissions.”
Kia PV5 WKNDR: a very rough electric camper for self-sufficiency in nature
In the US, where this annual event is of special interest, there was a rumor that it would be SEMA where Kia would finally reveal the first of its two promised electric pick-upsbut not. In the days before the opening date, the Korean brand awakened a new sheep with two press releases mysterious Both, with the image of headlights in the dark and the phrase “all roads lead to EMS.”
Now finally we know more about them. According to the Korean manufacturer, the designers at the Kia Design Center America (KDCA) in Irvine (California) are responsible for these two new conceptual electric vehicles that “intrinsically combine form and function in machines designed for a responsible commitment to nature.”
The electric motorhome prototype called ‘PV5 WKNDR’, inspired by Kia’s range of special purpose vehicles (PBV), is designed as an “all-in-one” camper solution that could change the way we understand van getaways and/or or motorhome.
Kia describes its design as a “Swiss army knife on wheels,” thanks to a modular and flexible interior. Its main characteristic, called ‘Gear Head’, allows you to maximize space by offering protected storage both inside and outside the vehicle when parked.
This not only allows equipment to be stored in an orderly manner, but also adapts to different needs: from a mobile pantry to a work area surrounded by nature.
In addition, the PV5 WKNDR has solar panels and hydraulic turbines in its wheels, which allow it to recharge the battery and power accessories such as an on-board compressor, ideal for extending stays in remote areas.
In this sense, the side rails on the outside of the van are electrifiedallowing you to quickly attach and power items such as lights, speakers and induction hobs.
Along with this versatile PV5 WKNDR, the Kia EV9 ADVNTR also debuted, an off-road version of the well-known EV9 SUV. This model incorporates a raised chassis, all-terrain tires and reinforcements in the panels and bumpers, as well as a roof rack for transporting adventure equipment or installing a tent on the roof.
Although EV9 ADVNTR seems closer to productionBoth concepts demonstrate Kia’s ambition to combine adventure with electric mobility and show a clear intention to explore new market segments. We hope that the Korean manufacturer will soon present more concrete news about these innovative concepts.
