Every weekend in Durbe Castle, exciting concert programs, a sweet house, an animal enclosure, gnome workshops, Santa Claus, a gift market and a wonderfully illuminated castle yard and its territory will take you on a fabulous holiday journey.

Inspired by Latvian lighting artists, the Tukuma county municipality together with the Tukuma museum and its structural unit Durbes pili and SIA Art Management Group have created a special winter fairy tale which will delight in the winter light garden of Durbe Palace on weekends in December. Every visitor will be delighted by a specially designed concert program here on Saturday evenings. On Fridays and Sundays, Latvian young talents will perform on the big stage with musical performances – dance studios and vocal studios, joint activities with gnomes are also planned.

On November 30, composer Jānis Lūsēns, as well as singers Annija Putniņa and Uģis Roze, will play music in the palace courtyard. This time, the two soloists sang the most beautiful songs of Jānis Lūsēns and Imantas Kalniņas, which are permeated by a romantic and philosophical thread and which perfectly fit into the time when we celebrate Latvia’s national holidays and wait for Christmas.

on December 7 with the program Winter mood singer Daumants Kalniņš and pianist Romāns Vendiņš will delight the audience. “I imagine this concert as a warm musical performance with songs that I associate with winter, which I hope to see in the courtyard of the Durbe Palace in white snow. In the program, which we will perform in a chamber atmosphere in a duet with Romanas Vendinis, a song from my childhood, when it seemed like snow there were more: The Good Winter, Winter Road Idyll, Northern Lights Romance, and they will intertwine with songs that I no longer knew as a child, creating a warm and wintery pre-Christmas evening together,” Daumants says about the upcoming concert.

On December 14, the audience is invited to enjoy the musical performances A wolf has such a soul the updated version. The artistic idea of the performance is based on an original story in which two different worlds meet – humans and wolves. It is a story about relationships, humanity and the desire to hear yourself and others. A wolf has such a soul is an unusual show for children that offers musically high-quality and diverse content. In modern stylistics, you can both sing along and enjoy visually gorgeous stage costumes and lighting solutions. 60 smaller and larger trains – a children’s vocal ensemble – take part in the show Knipas and Knaukci participants, as well as the artistic director, the train’s mother Sanita Sējānes, Andris Sējāns, the narrator and actor of the role of the father, etc.

On the evening of December 21, singer Aija Vītoliņa and pianist Artjoms Sarvi invite you to a concert. “Shortly before the most awaited winter holiday, in this excited and anxious time, you want to stop for a bit, listen to the meek snowfall, breathe in the sparkling winter air, warm yourself with warm tea and the most beautiful Christmas songs. This evening, we will sing together favorite Christmas melodies, as well as songs that are special and close to me. At the concert the wonderful pianist Artjoms Sarvi will play music with me,” says Aija.

On December 28, the cycle of performances will end with the New Year’s musical show for the whole family Holiday sparkles! – an adventure with fairy tale characters. During the performance, the audience will become part of the show – as a jury that will help evaluate which of the fairy tale characters will shine the most and win the main prize – Golden chest. A great opportunity to excitingly welcome the end of the year by participating in an event where sparkling emotions, fun and the joy of being together will create an unforgettable holiday experience.

“Through light and music, mood and the glitter of snow, we want to create the feelings of winter and fairy tales, allowing the event’s visitors to experience the real holiday, so that it would be like in the title song of Zane Dombrovska, composed for this project, about wading through snowdrifts, sledding on a snowy winter road; when you can meet real gnomes with long beards and the real Santa Claus – characters that children and adults, seeing with the eyes of a child, really believe in this miracle. All this will be found in this Winter’s Tale!” invite the organizers of the event, adding that the famous and beautiful Christmas markets of European cities in Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg and elsewhere, where the smell of mulled wine and gingerbread, where music sounds, have served as a source of inspiration. “This will be an opportunity to get to a place where we can experience the festivities, which sometimes disappear in our daily run and the routine begins. That’s why it’s important for us that everyone who stays here forgets for a while and really enjoys the festivities from the heart.”

Durbe Castle A winter fairy tale will be able to visit throughout December on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 18.00 to 22.00. Every evening you will have the opportunity to meet gnomes, with whom you can paint gingerbread, as well as characters from various fairy tales. Let’s create a feeling of warmth together in a place that hasn’t been there yet!
