A man killed people at random in New York

Randomly, for no particular reason killed three innocent people a man with a long criminal history and mental problems in New York, and the number of victims could have been higher if some good souls had not intervened and helped the authorities to capture him, reports the American newspaper New York Post. The tragic incident raises the question: how could such a ticking time bomb roam free in the Democratic-led metropolis?

The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Ramon Rivera, went on a rampage this morning when he stabbed a 36-year-old construction worker in the stomach. Two hours later, he stabbed a 67-year-old fisherman and finally killed a 36-year-old woman near the UN headquarters.

Among those nearby, a British tourist, a taxi driver and a security guard at the UN headquarters helped the authorities capture the man, who would probably have taken even more victims without them. Rivera, who was released from Rikers Prison a month ago and was living in a homeless shelter, pleaded guilty and was charged with three counts of murder.

Among his victims, the two men were pronounced dead when they were transported to the hospital, the woman died a little later into his injuries.

Police seized two bloody kitchen knives believed to have been used by Rivera during the attacks.

The suspect has an extensive criminal record and has been arrested several times in the past year for burglary, assault and theft. According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams

there are serious questions about why Rivera was at large given his serious mental health issues.

The tragic case caused great indignation not only in the metropolis, but throughout the United States. Even technology entrepreneur Elon Musk, one of Donald Trump’s future ministers, spoke out about the incident.
