The police received reports that an unknown man had exposed his genitals while traveling on trams 7 and 11 in Riga. In total, four such cases were registered, namely two crime episodes recorded at the end of September this year, and two more in October.
The police found out that in all cases the man exposed his genitals in the presence of minors.
This gave the basis to qualify the criminal proceedings according to the article of the Criminal Law on inducing minors into prostitution. Such a crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years or probation supervision.
The police obtained a photo of the alleged perpetrator from a female eyewitness to the crime. To establish the identity of the person, a photo of him was distributed to the media.
A man responded to the police advertisement, informing that he recognized the person in the photo. The law enforcement officers, finding out the location of the alleged guilty man, detained him.
The detainee was born in 1983 and had not previously been noticed by the police. He was placed in custody as a security measure.
The law enforcement officers express their gratitude to the resident for providing information that contributed to establishing the suspect’s identity and arresting him.
