A mini electric car from the 1970s resurfaces!

In the United States, a YouTuber discovered a small electric car from the 1970s that had been abandoned for twenty years.

A small electric car years 1970 has just resurfaced in the United States. After nearly twenty years of oblivion, this Sebring CitiCar just received its first wash.

A pioneer of American electric vehicles

Long before the arrival of modern electric vehicles that we know well like Tesla and Renault Zoethere was the Sebring CitiCar. It is a 1970s electric car produced in Florida, United States. This tiny vehicle measures only 2.4 meters long. It is powered by a small electric motor 6 horses which seems very modest. In reality, it represented an innovative mobility solution for its time.

Its range and power were very limited, but the CitiCar was extremely agile thanks to its small size. In the city, she found her place very easily. This unique city car was produced for approximately three years and 4,400 copies were sold in total. It was therefore the best-selling electric vehicle in North America until 2011. At that time, the Nissan Leaf finally took over.

Today, the CitiCar is a forgotten electric car model. It still embodies the audacity of the first manufacturers to explore alternative energies. However, the automobile market at the time was not really ready to accommodate electric cars on a massive scale.

A fascinating relic of the past

In Florida, a Sebring CitiCar was eventually rediscovered by Jimmy. The latter is a collector of unusual vehicles. He is also the owner of the YouTube channel Jimmys World which has nearly 500,000 subscribers. Jimmy is known for his atypical projects. Not long ago, he transformed Elvis Presley’s old jet into a camper van. Recently, he wanted to save this CitiCar by taking it to M.A.D. Detailinga specialist in car cleaning. He gave her her first wash in twenty years.

M.A.D. Detailing released the video documenting the cleaning process to bring this little car back to life. Under a thick layer of dust and of dirt accumulated over the years, the CitiCar gradually regains its original shine. This offers enthusiasts a visual testament to America’s electric automotive heritage. This interview clearly highlights the importance of preserve these historic vehicles.

This is good proof that the automobile industry had already attempted to develop electrical solutions before their current popularization. In the 1970s, some manufacturers were already trying to shake things up by becoming pioneers in electromobility. The history of vehicles is not new and this CitiCar is once again proof.
