The second CAF tram, manufactured and assembled in Zaragoza, Spain, has arrived in Budapest. The specialists of BKK and BKV thoroughly inspected the vehicle before delivery, which can be put on the market after successful completion of tests, trial runs and the official examination.

The tram was manufactured and assembled in Zaragoza

  • 34 meters long;
  • equipped with a more powerful air conditioning system than before;
  • it has a low floor, so it is easier for people with limited mobility and those traveling with strollers or larger luggage to get on and off;
  • it is energy efficient, because it feeds the energy generated during braking (if the overhead line network is also able to receive it) back into the network;
  • its design has been further developed compared to that of the CAF electric cars already in circulation: due to its more modern body, the sides of the vehicle, the doors and the covers related to them have been renewed.

By 2021, 73 CAF trams were in service with the Budapest tram purchases. In November 2022, BKK ordered an additional 20 short and then in March 2023 26 short and 5 long (31 in total) CAF trams. Some of the vehicles are assembled in Budapest (the body of the first such tram was delivered to Budapest in June), and some in Spain – such is the one that just arrived.
