A new era: The hydrogen motorcycle

Based on the Ninja H2, the bike has a supercharged 1.0-liter (998 cc) four-cylinder engine that has been modified to run on hydrogen instead of gasoline. The hydrogen is injected directly into the cylinders, while the motorcycle operates on a traditional combustion process. The engine isn’t the only change, as the bike has been fitted with hydrogen fuel canisters as well as an on-board “hydrogen fuel system”. Apparently these components were placed in the back and were designed to look like rigid saddlebags.

Kawasaki recently staged the “world’s first public demonstration of a hydrogen-powered motorcycle by a production motorcycle manufacturer” at the Suzuka circuit during the Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race. It was the culmination of months of work as the project began in March 2023 and saw some test runs earlier this year.
