The start of the 2024 school year is an opportunity for Netgear to offer new products compatible with Wi-Fi 7. The Mesh network systems specialist did not wait for the standard to be finalized, unveiling an Orbi 970 system compatible with Wi-Fi 7 last year. The price was impressive, far from being accessible to all budgets with a starting price of 1,699 euros. A year later, the Wi-Fi 7 specification was finalized with the appearance of the Wi-Fi 7 Certified standard at the beginning of 2024. Elements remain to be defined, particularly with regard to the 802.11be amendment, but Wi-Fi 7 is approaching and wants to become more affordable.
Netgear has just made official the Orbi 770, a Mesh WiFi 7 system that its manufacturer promises “efficient and affordable”. As a reminder, wifi 7 is here to offer speeds 2.4 times faster than wifi 6, as well as low latency and better interference management. This new standard is intended to be more suitable for heavier uses, such as managing 4K/5K, video conferencing in (very) high definition, online gaming without latency for an entire household.
The Orbi 770 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 7 System provides up to 11Gbps throughput and supports up to 100 simultaneous devices. Coverage extends up to 750m² for the 3-pack and Neatger claims improved connection speeds. Its system combines the 5GHz and 6GHz WiFi bands using MLO (for Multi-Link Operation) on WiFi-connected products, but also for backhaul (base link to satellites). Inside, four high-performance internal antennas with amplifiers are present for 360-degree coverage. In terms of wired connections, each box has 4 RJ45 ports at 2.5Gbps.
Netgear also emphasizes security with various features, including dedicated Wi-Fi for guests or VPN support. The Orbi 770 series also has an additional layer of security with the Advanced Protection feature. There is also the Netgear Armor security suite with a 30-day trial offer and Netgear Smart Parental Controls.
