In August, Romanian employees will enjoy a new mini-vacation. More precisely, the employees in Romania will have a day off on August 15, when it is the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which has become, for some years, a legal day off from the state.
Moreover, Romanians who are on a budget will enjoy an extra day off, even managing to have four days off in a row as the government decided to make Friday (August 16) free to bridge the weekend
Those who work in the private sector will not be so happy, they will only have the day off on August 15, and then on the weekend, August 17 and 18. However, as most Romanians who can do this do, most employees will take a day off on August 16, so they will have a few days of indulgence and rest.
What employees need to know about legal days off, according to the Labor Code
Employees with jobs where the activity cannot be interrupted due to the nature of the production process or the specifics of the activity cannot benefit from these days off, but will benefit from compensation with corresponding free time in the next 30 days, notes Capital.
Also, employers whose employees work on public holidays are obliged to compensate them. According to the legislation in force, employees have the right to a compensation with free time in the next 30 days. In case this compensation cannot be granted, employees are entitled to a salary increase of at least 100% of the basic salary.
If, for justified reasons, days off are not granted, Romanian employees benefit from an increase to the basic salary which cannot be less than 100% of the basic salary corresponding to the work performed in the normal working schedule.
