The agricultural school in Zrenjanin received a new modern tractor of the brand “ZOOMLION”, worth 6 million dinars, thanks to the competition of the Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, with the participation of the City of Zrenjanin. The Provincial Secretariat participated with 4 million dinars, while the City of Zrenjanin allocated 2 million.
The tractor will primarily be used by students of the agricultural technician and agricultural machinery operator majors, but students from other majors will also have the opportunity to work with it. The director of the school, Vladimir Popov, emphasized that the tractor has advanced technology such as navigation and autopilot, which will enable students to gain knowledge about modern innovations in agriculture. This tractor will significantly improve the cultivation of the school land, which covers between 80 and 100 hectares.
Popov also pointed out that the number of students is increasing, with 390 enrolled in 2022, 410 in 2023, while 440 students were enrolled this school year, which is proof of the successful work of the school. This growth in interest shows that the Agricultural School in Zrenjanin is becoming more and more attractive for students who want to engage in agriculture and related professions.
The Deputy Mayor of Zrenjanin, Saša Santovac, emphasized the importance of supporting the school and emphasized the development of student cooperatives, with a special focus on the establishment of a mini-brewery within the school cooperative. It is planned that the beer produced at the school will be presented during the next “Beer Days” event. The city donated funds for the purchase of equipment for the mini-brewery, and the value of this project exceeds 10 million dinars.
“ZOOMLION tractor to facilitate education”
Nemanja Ivanović, Assistant Provincial Secretary for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, pointed out that this year 12 agricultural educational institutions applied for the competition, and funds in the amount of 32 million dinars were earmarked for their equipment. Since 2016, the Agricultural School in Zrenjanin has received aid worth about 15 million dinars through various competitions. The Secretariat plans to continue investing in the education of young agricultural personnel, so that schools have modern machinery for practice.
The guests toured the school’s model property. On it, students together with professors form bio-gardens with aromatic and spice plants as part of practical classes. In the school’s greenhouses, students grow vegetables and flowers. The agricultural school in Zrenjanin educates students on four-year courses such as horticulture technician, agricultural and veterinary technician. Its three-year programs include the fields of agricultural technology operator and florist-gardener. Interest in the school is high, and more than 90% of the available places in this year’s enrollment cycle have been filled. The school offers job prospects and the possibility of developing their own farms, which is one of the reasons for the increased interest of students.
