A person died in a fire in the Ludza region

On November 7, a fire broke out in the Ludza region with a tragic outcome – a person died. This was reported by the Latgale regional department of the State Fire and Rescue Service.

Yesterday, at 16:04, the State Fire Service became aware of a fire in one of the three-story residential buildings in the Ludza region. In the third floor apartment, household items, a sofa and a table were on fire – the fire spread to 6 square meters. meters.

Four residents were evacuated from the building. In turn, firefighters carried the man out of the smoke-filled apartment; emergency physicians confirmed his death. At 17:36 the fire was extinguished. It is reported that there was no smoke detector installed in the apartment.

The State Fire Service reminds that the most tragic fires often occur in small areas, where things smolder or burn with a small flame, resulting in intense smoke and combustion products. In a smoky environment, a person only needs to take a few breaths for him to feel a deterioration in health, and later loss of consciousness is possible. It is the smoke detector, which promptly signals the occurrence of smoke, that allows people to escape.

Over the past 24 hours, the Latvian State Fire Service received a total of 44 alarm calls – nine for firefighting, 25 for rescue work, and 10 calls were false.
