Various local media point to at least 28 fatalities, citing the authorities
A Jeju Air plane with 175 passengers and six crew members skidded off the runway and crashed into a wall at Muan International Airport in South Korea early Sunday morning, according to local news agency Yonhap.
Local authorities cited by various Korean media reported that the accident had caused at least 28 fatalities, although at the time of writing this information there was no official confirmation in this regard.
The accident occurred at 9:07 a.m. local time, just after the plane, coming from Bangkok, landed at Muan airport, about 300 kilometers from Seoul.
It is a Boeing 737-800 that landed without the landing gear deployed and slid uncontrollably down the runway, as shown in the first images released of the accident. After a strong impact against an airport wall, the plane turned into a fireball.
