A pocket computer with holographic imaging with a personal AI assistant. This is how the children of the generation imagine the computer of the future

The Alpha generation lives with technology from birth and has visionary ideas about its future. For these children, the Internet is a matter of course, they usually do schoolwork on the computer and regularly communicate with their friends online. This was revealed by the students of the Comenius Children’s University, who participated in a survey and challenge by Lenovo to design the computer of the future.

Most children from the Alpha generation grow up with cell phones and computers from birth. Working with the Internet and office tools is a matter of course for them, and computer games are their favorite source of entertainment. They most often use the computer to complete assignments for school, surf the Internet, and communicate with friends. It emerged from a survey among 9-14-year-old students of the Comenius Children’s University, which was carried out by Lenovo.

The fact that children are interested in technology because it is a natural part of their lives was also shown by their interest in a trip to Lenovo’s factory. Both boys and girls took part in the challenge to design the computer of the future if they want to see for themselves how a computer is made.

The designs of the computer of the future were conceived by several as futuristic as from science fiction movies, while all of them focused on how to make it easier to use the computer even more than the manufacturers currently allow. According to them, the computer of the future should be such that fit in a pocket, should have an AI assistant and especially holographic imaging. According to the children who took part in the survey, artificial intelligence should help people in sorting information, searching for it and bringing new ideas.

“Technology stimulates creativity, which plays an important role in developing critical thinking and creative skills, which children will need in life to solve various challenges. It was also shown in the challenge to draw a computer of the future, which the children thought was truly futuristic. In their vision, many worked with technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality or telepathic projection, which points to the fact that for today’s children, current technologies are so commonplace that they naturally perceive areas where technology has a huge potential for development. At Lenovo, we listen to our customers, even the smallest, to bring smarter technology to everyone. Many of the ideas that the children came up with were inspiring, interesting and informative,” he said Vladimír Varzaly, country manager of Lenovo.

The expert jury, which included, in addition to the representative of Lenovo, the well-known artist Ashot Haas and the influencer and ambassador of the Lenovo Legion brand, Matej Slažanský alias Selassie, selected the 10 most inspiring designs of the computer of the future.

“Children’s creativity is like a selfless smile. It is boundless, external influences have not yet had room to distort or disturb it. Children’s fantasy in its untamed form is a rare contribution and a valuable inspiration for the creativity of contemporary designers, artists and other artists. Supporting this cycle of perspectives between them is therefore an enlightened way of bringing the potential of creativity into the future as well,” he concluded. judge and artist Ashot Haas.

The production factory in Ullo, Hungary, near Budapest, is Lenovo’s first in Europe. It produces thousands of products a day and is the size of 7 football fields. The factory’s solar panels can produce as much energy as would be sufficient for even a smaller city. The production line produces more than 1,000 servers and 4,000 workstations daily.

“For us, this visit was an exceptional event. Until now, only the children of our employees could see our factory. We showed the students how we manufacture servers, racks and workstations and explained the entire production process, which activities are automated, but also various examples of sustainability. The computers we make here are not the ones that children have at home, but are used by large corporations or data centers, but it is still the main attraction that children enjoy the most,” said the director of operations at the factory, Zólyomi Szabolcs.
