Eugen Tomac, the president of the PMP, requested on Thursday, January 9, the resignation of Klaus Iohannis from the position of president. Tomac considers Iohannis “the main culprit” for the political events and believes that any day with him in Cotroceni is “a nightmare for democracy”.
“The last two months have put Romania in the situation of living a horror movie. Our country is the scene of unprecedented chess moves for a European democracy. The main culprit is, and remains, a major problem of Romania. This problem is represented by a man who, through neglect, non-involvement and ignorance, has brought the country to the point where it risks being taken over by democratic vote by political actors who exclusively serve the interests of the Kremlin. To overcome this crisis, Romania urgently needs a mature democratic transition, free of arrogance games. The first step in this direction is the resignation of Klaus Iohannis. The departure of Iohannis is essential to reestablish the democratic game and restore a modicum of confidence that we have a real chance to bounce back,” Tomac said in a post on social media.
Tomac claims that Iohannis staying in Cotroceni gives serious political reasons to those who challenge the annulment of the elections.
“Every day with Iohannis at Cotroceni is a nightmare day for Romanian democracy, because it has become a vulnerability as dangerous as the one that would have been installed at Cotroceni through petty underground internal games, but also through the evil external influence of those who want a “neutral” Romania. No one from Brussels, Washington or Berlin understands why Iohannis is still staying in Cotroceni, giving those who challenge the annulment of the elections serious political reasons to question everything. In order for Romania to be able to credibly emerge from the chaos it is in, the first step is for Iohannis to retire,” Tomac said.
