After a long intervention by Carlos Mazón to shake off responsibilities regarding the management of DANA, it is the turn of the rest of the Corts Valencianes parties to respond. Both the PSOE and Compromís have called for Mazón’s resignation: “We will not rest until he answers for his incompetence and lies,” said Joan Baldoví, who spoke for Compromís.
Baldoví has thanked all the people who have helped to rescue and clean up València because they “have certainly lived up to it.” And he addressed Mazón: “Can you sleep at night? Can you look in the mirror? Could you look in the face of a person who has lost a family member? For me you are no longer our president. “A president who abandons his people does not deserve to be president.”
The deputy has asked for Mazón’s departure because “he has already repeatedly resigned from his responsibilities.” “Where was the president of Valencia when he was needed most?” he asked. “How could I be eating calmly while Utiel and Requena were flooding? How could he be missing while we Valencians were facing the worst catastrophe?”
“We will be able to recover from the material destruction, what we will not be able to recover are the lives of the 216 people that your government had the obligation to protect,” insisted Baldoví, who also recalled during his speech that Mazón criticized the University of Valencia. for believing that it was exaggerated that classes were suspended due to DANA. “His incompetence does not end on the 29th, unfortunately he did not ask the State for help from the first moment and delayed help arriving from other places,” he stated.
The PSOE proposes an interim president
José Muñoz, spokesperson for the PSPV-PSOE, has proposed to the PP during his turn that, given the “inaction” of the Consell, Mazón be dismissed and a “transitional” technical president be appointed. “They will have the votes of the PSOE, without compensation,” he said, but with three conditions: that they name a temporary and technical president, that their management of the recovery is “an open process with all groups except Vox”, and that they then call elections.
Muñoz has reproached Mazón for giving “a lot of information” to “misinform” during the two and a half hours that his explanations lasted. “You have tried to save yourself politically, but you have not explained to Valencians why you did absolutely nothing in response to the alerts,” he said. “Not everything failed. You failed, Mr. Mazón. The first thing a protocol tells us is that people with the ability to decide have to be in their position. And you were not in your position,” Muñoz criticized the Valencian president, who spent three hours at a meal with a journalist and arrived late to Cecopi, the key meeting to coordinate the response to DANA. “You were subdued during the greatest tragedy of the Valencian Community.”
Like Baldoví, Muñoz has told him that he “resigned de facto” and has criticized that the remodeling of the Generalitat Valenciana focuses on the possible departure of the Minister of the Interior: “He probably was not up to the task, but he was where he had to be.” to be If she stops, the first one who has to stop is you.”
Vox accuses the Consell of “negligence”
The first to intervene after Mazón was the Vox parliamentary group. Its spokesperson, José María Llanos, has accused the Consell of “negligence” and lack of organization. “You set an example of management. Where is the management?” asked Llanos, who questioned the regional secretary of Security and Emergencies Emilio Argüeso, who he said has been “missing” during the emergency.
The Vox spokesperson has equated the “negligence” of the regional executive with the “criminal negligence” of the Government. Llanos has accused the president, Pedro Sánchez, of “vileness and evil” and has accused various ministers such as Grande-Marlaska, Robles or Ribera for the responsibility that, he considers, they had in the response to the emergency.
