We are witnessing the progress of technology, but sometimes smart solutions are simple and effective. For example, in this case, only a radar and a series of connected lights are sufficient.

Norway has implemented an innovative approach to reducing energy consumption using automatically dimming roads. This technology involves the use of LED street lights equipped with radar sensors that detect approaching vehicles or pedestrians. When there is no traffic, the lights are dimmed to about 20%, significantly reducing energy consumption. As soon as a vehicle or a pedestrian approaches, the lights are automatically turned on at full capacity, ensuring safety and visibility on the road, it states. HAK magazine.

This system has been successfully installed on a nine kilometer stretch of road in Norway and has been praised for its energy savings. The Norwegian Public Roads Authority estimates that the energy savings could pay for the project in less than five years. This initiative is part of a wider effort in Norway to retrofit infrastructure with intelligent lighting systems to reduce energy consumption.
