A Romanian town hall is building a fleet of electric cars

Galati City Hall is building a fleet of electric cars. The municipality obtained funding for 35 vehicles. The first three cars have already arrived in Galati.

The Environment Fund administration approved on Tuesday a new funding request submitted by Galati City Hall for a batch of 20 electric cars. It is about 20 eco-tickets worth 2.4 million lei. Previously, the municipality obtained funding for a batch of 15 such cars. In that case, 15 eco-tickets worth 1.8 million lei were awarded. In fact, the first three electric cars from the first batch recently arrived at the City Hall.

“We continue on the path of non-polluting transport. After modernizing the public transport fleet, we also won funding for the municipality’s fleet. It is another measure that makes Galaţi an increasingly environmentally friendly city, and a proof of this is the leading place we occupy in terms of air quality”, said Ionuț Pucheanu, the mayor of Galați.

Who will use the electric cars of Galati City Hall?

The cars are purchased through the “Program on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in transport by promoting non-polluting and energy-efficient road transport vehicles 2020-2024”. The electric cars will be used by the municipal services and subordinate units. The objective of the City Hall is that the entire car fleet consists only of non-polluting cars.

In the city of Galati, 46 stations were installed for charging electric cars. Through the projects won through PNRR, the city will have more than 200 such stations.

In parallel, the City Hall of Galați also attracted the necessary funds for 62 new and non-polluting means of transport for shared public transport through PNRR. On the list are 42 electric buses, 10 trams and 10 electric minibuses that will arrive in Galati in the next period.

105 new means of transport, purchased in previous years, are already running on the city’s streets. It is about 20 hybrid buses, 8 trams, 17 trolleybuses, 40 buses and 20 Euro 6 minibuses, stated the Press Department of the Galati City Hall.
