Mikhail Vetrov, deputy of the municipal formation of St. Petersburg in the village of Shushary, chairman of the Association of Manufacturers of Children’s Goods, Works and Services, proposed assessing the possibility of introducing the principle of a seasonal menu into the process of organizing domestic school meals. A copy of the appeal addressed to the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergei Kravtsov is at RT’s disposal.
As Vetrov noted, school meals are one of the most important components of a child’s success in school.
“The student’s health, mood and academic performance depend on how competently and professionally the nutrition is organized in an educational institution,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to him, in the world there is a practice of introducing a seasonal menu when organizing children’s meals in educational institutions.
“This approach significantly increases the demand of schoolchildren for food from local canteens, and also helps educational institutions seriously save on the purchase of raw materials and food,” the RT interlocutor emphasized.
Moreover, seasonal products are distinguished by increased freshness and, as a result, benefits for the child’s body, the deputy recalled.
“I ask you to evaluate the possibility of introducing the principle of a seasonal menu into the process of organizing domestic school meals. This step will have a beneficial effect on the health and academic performance of students, and will also help to use budget funds more competently when purchasing food,” the text of the appeal says.
Earlier, Vetrov called for reviving the system of grading for behavior in schools.
