A small water theme for the garden – see the instructions in the video

The water motif is a beautiful decoration both in the garden and on the terrace. You can easily do this yourself with little effort when using a solar-powered fountain. Watch the instructions in the video, and roll up your sleeves!

A water feature doesn’t have to be huge in size to be spectacular. Make a small water motif for the garden yourself, cleverly inside a large flower pot.

All you need for the potted water feature is soil, one small and one large flower pot and a solar-powered fountain, which are sold in hardware stores, for example. You can plant flowers of your choice on the edges of the pot.

When installed inside the flower pot, the location of the water motif can be moved. It can be placed in the garden or on the terrace. The water subject is easy to disassemble, and it does not take up space in the warehouse in winter storage.

Make a water motif inside a flower pot yourself – step-by-step instructions

The most important thing when assembling a water theme is that you choose the right size pots and solar pump.

First, make sure you have a small closed pot or bowl that can fit the solar pump. We used a solar cell pump with a diameter of 16 cm in this case. The diameter of the small pot is 17 cm.

Then choose a large pot that can fit a small pot or bowl inside so that there is still room on the edges for summer flowers. The diameter of the large pot we use is 40 cm, leaving a good 10 cm space on the edges.

Please note that the solar powered water feature only bubbles in sunny weather and during the day when sunlight hits the solar cell.

The solar pump stops working when the water bowl runs out of water. The bigger the water bowl inside the bigger pot, the longer the solar cell pump will work. In windy weather, the water jet will be directed away from the bowl, and the water will run out faster.

Supplies:

  • large flower pot, 40 cm in diameter
  • a small closed flower pot or bowl with water inside (about 17 cm in diameter)
  • solar cell pump, 16 cm in diameter
  • five summer flower seedlings, for example million bells and iron herb
  • a sack of summer flower soil

Make your own water theme like this:

  1. Read the operating instructions of the solar cell pump for installation. Before use, take the steps described in the instructions.
  2. Fill a large flower pot halfway with summer flower soil.
  3. Remove the summer flower seedlings from the protective pots and place them on the edges of the pot at regular intervals.
  4. Add soil between the seedlings and in the center of the pot.
  5. Move the pot to a sunny location of your choice.
  6. Fill a closed bowl with water and place it in the center of the potted plant. Place the solar pump in a bowl of water. Make sure the flowers do not shade the solar cell. The fountain starts working after it has been charged for a while in the sun.
  7. Fill the water bowl with water when the water runs out.
