A student from Valencia creates a website to locate missing vehicles in the DANA

A young Mechanical Engineering student from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) has created and enabled in just a few days a website to locate vehicles missing due to DANAas reported by the institution on the social network X, formerly ‘Twitter’.

This collaborative website called ‘Tucochedana.es’ acts as a registration and consultation system for lost vehicles, which can nourish both the people who locate said vehicles in the midst of the disaster and those who search for them. There are already 890 cars registered.

What is the “TuCocheDana” website and how it works

René Molina Ávila, a 2nd year student of Mechanical Engineering at the UPV, has designed and launched the page tucochedana.es, a collaborative platform that allows you to geolocate vehicles affected by DANA, which has mainly affected the Valencian Community but also Albacete, several areas of Eastern Andalusia and Catalonia.

One of the main virtues of this tool is the simplicity of its use and navigability since the two main sections, in addition to the section aimed at volunteers, are well defined:

  • Query of lost vehicles: In essence, this query is carried out by entering the license plate of the missing vehicle and, if it is registered, the website will show its exact location.
  • Register a found vehicle: Allows you to register a vehicle using its license plate. Brand, color, size… you can also report any detail that draws your attention to the vehicle, exactly where it is located, and you can attach photos (which can be crucial in some cases to be able to claim insurance damages).

This registration and consultation system It has already collected 889 vehicles in its database in just a few days. And although it can now only be accessed via the web, the corresponding applications for Android and iOS are already being developed.

About how the page initiative came about tucochedana.esRené Molina, states that “he had always wanted to develop an idea that helps people” and explains that only a few hours after the terrible DANA that devastated Valencia, he saw it clearly. “The day after DANA, I went to one of the affected areas. I immediately realized the need that people had to locate their missing vehicles as soon as possible,” says Molina.

The website of this young man from Almería is the result of his spirit of solidarity and his knowledge, although he insists that his programming teacher at the Institute where he studied, Juanfran Soler, “has helped him at all times.” In the face of a catastrophe of this magnitude, all help is little.

What the Insurance Compensation Consortium (CCS) will do

For its part, the Insurance Compensation Consortium (CCS) of the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business has already provided information about what damages it covers for those affected after the extraordinary floods that occurred since last October 29, 2024 in Valencia, Albacete, Cuenca and Eastern Andalusia. Among other things, he points out that:

1. Damage due to extraordinary flooding is compensated by the CCS of the Ministry of EconomyCommerce and Business, as this cause is found in the list of what are legally called “extraordinary risks”.

2. Therefore, the CCS will directly assume, with its own resources, the management and payment of the compensation requests it receives, prior assessment of the compensable damages that have occurred and that they continue to occur due to this episode of extraordinary flooding. (And at this point graphic tests are essential).

3. The requirement to access CCS coverage is that the person or property affected must be insured and have their insurance in force at the time when the extraordinary flood occurred. This fact must be proven in the request for compensation to the CCS. Requests for compensation can be submitted directly by the affected insured or, on their behalf, by their insurer or by their insurance agent or broker.

To do this, a call to the CCS call center (toll-free number 900 222 665) will be enough to provide the identification data of the insured and the people or property that have suffered damage, who have insurance, or to complete the same information online at the CCS website (www.consorseguros.es).

In this case, the entity “will record and manage all requests for compensation received from the insured, even if the period of 7 days provided for in the legislation has elapsed” since the damage occurred.
