Screams of relatives
Ajgar Bepari, a tailor shopkeeper of Shariatpur’s Naria, wanted to send boys abroad illegally by taking loans from several NGOs. But he could not be debt free as his sons could not go abroad illegally. Then he chose to commit suicide to free himself from debt.
The incident took place in the garden next to the deceased’s house in Baher Kushia village of Gharishar union of Naria upazila on Friday midnight. Police recovered the body of the deceased on Saturday.
The deceased Ajgar Bepari was the son of deceased Kalachan Bepari of Baher Kushia village of Gharishar Union and a tailor shopkeeper of Gharishar Bazar.
According to local and police sources, Azgar Bepari took a loan of around 10 lakhs from some NGOs to send his two sons abroad to alleviate the poverty of the family. But he failed to send the boys abroad illegally After that, while paying the installments of the NGO, Ajgar became burdened with more debt. It is difficult for Ajgar to meet the household expenses from the income of the small tailor shop in the local Garisha bazaar, where it becomes almost impossible for Ajagar to pay the loan installments. Unable to collect the daily installments, he became mentally devastated. He was supposed to pay the installment of Tk 50,000 on Saturday, but could not collect that money in any way, so he chose to commit suicide.
Ajgar Bepari’s son Dipu Bepari said, yesterday after having lunch, the father left the house. As he did not return home at night, we thought he had gone to the nearby village fair. But in the morning I got news that his hanging body was found in the garden behind the house.
Naria Police Inspector (OC Investigation) Abir Hossain said that the body was recovered and sent for post-mortem. Preliminary investigation revealed that Azgar was under bad debt. Unable to bear the debt burden, he is believed to have committed suicide. Further action will be taken after receiving the post-mortem report.
