A post in a Facebook group with news from Delesi, Tanagra and Avlida shortly before the traffic accident in which the police director Apostolos Masperos and his 53-year-old wife lost their lives on Sunday evening is causing a sensation.
In this post, a woman who passed by the spot shortly before the tragedy happened, describes: “When leaving Vathi to go to Athens, at Chalkidos-Schimatariou, before the exit for the national road, there is a fallen tank the size of a bucket in the middle.”
“Great attention, the spot is not illuminated, we just escaped by a miracle” concluded the woman, adding that “the competent services are also informed”.
When asked who she informed afterwards, the woman explained that, among other things, she had also called the 112.

“She was as big as a bucket”
Describing what happened on Sunday night, the woman told protothema.gr: “Last night at 20:10 I left with my family from Avlida, and to Chalkida at the height of Schimatario, exactly where the fatal traffic accident took place. we were the first to pass and I’m telling you honestly, we had Agios and we were saved”.
“It’s an unlit spot and as my husband was driving we see a water tank and it was as big as a bucket as you can imagine. We dodged it at the last minute and didn’t get killed. I was screaming in the car because at first I thought it was a stopped car in front of us and we were going to fall on it, but then I realized it was probably a water tank. And I tell my husband in panic to stop because people will be killed, let’s do something. It was right in the middle of the road, to the point where there was no street lighting,” the woman continues.
“So then I called 100 and informed them and they told me to also call 112. And so I did and informed them all. And I also posted on social media so people could see it and protect themselves. When I later read that the couple had been killed, I was shocked. And now I’m shocked, I can’t fathom this thing,” concluded the woman who made the post.
How did the car accident happen?
It is recalled that the traffic accident in which the 48-year-old officer who served in the Sub-Directorate of Patrols of the Athens Police Department and his wife lost their lives, occurred approximately 500 meters before Schimatari on the Chalkida-Schimatari highway, upstream towards Athens.
According to information, the 48-year-old Superintendent of Police he swerved to the left to avoid a plastic water tank in the middle of the roadway, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle he and his wife were riding in, crash into the crash bars, and fatally injure both of them.
From the investigation that followed, it emerged that the tank had fallen from a car driven by a 59-year-old man.
