According to the Governor of the Red Sea Province, at 05:30 local time (and Lithuanian time), a distress signal was received from the ship “Sea Story”, which left the port near Marsa Alam on Saturday for a five-day diving trip with 31 tourists and 14 crew members.
Major General Amr Hanafi said survivors were found in the Wadi el Gemal area, south of Marsa Alam, and that they were receiving the necessary medical attention.
He added that the Egyptian Navy’s warship El Fateh and military aircraft are making extensive efforts to locate the missing.
Marsa Alam is a popular tourist destination on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, surrounded by diving spots including the famous coral reefs.
Marsa Alam is about 280 km from Hurghada, beloved by Lithuanians.
Dive Pro Liveaboard, the Egypt-based owner and operator of Sea Story, had no immediate comment.
However, its website says the ship was built in 2022. and is 44 m long. It has four decks and 18 cabins that can accommodate up to 36 passengers.
