A truck driver falls asleep and crashes into a motorhome. 28 snakes, two turtles, five lizards and a cat that were traveling with the family escaped

And road accident in which a truck is involved is not a normal and ordinary accident, the consequences are dramatic to say the least.

However, when the result of an accident in which a truck collides with another vehicle and releases poisonous snakeschaos can break loose. More than two dozen snakes thus regained their freedom after the motorhome in which they were traveling was run over by a truck. But that’s not the strangest thing about the accident.

Traveling with family and pets

In the motorhome there were five people, 28 snakes, two turtles, five bearded dragons and even a cat. And it was also towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

It was shortly after midnight when the accident occurred. The truck that was coming behind hit the Jeep, which crashed into the bedroom of the motorhome, where one of the family’s children was sleeping, when chaos broke out.

Although the truck driver was seriously injured in the collision, no one in the motorhome, human or animal, was injured.

“I have a lot of reptiles, I do reptile exhibitions,” explained the man who was driving the motorhome. “I had some venomous snakes loose in the caravan when the accident happened, so I had to get them out before the emergency staff arrived because I didn’t want to put them in danger.”

Even so, one of the reptiles, a small, very poisonous viper, took advantage of the situation to escape. Fortunately, the owner soon recovered the fugitive.

“In 19 years, I have never seen anything like this,” declared a police officer. Police believe the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel shortly before the collision.

Hopefully, the family and collection of pets made it to safety after the accident. Of course, we do not know if the hotels in the region would accept to accommodate this entire traveling zoo. It is one thing to accept pets and another to accept a colony of poisonous reptiles.

As for the truck driver, he was taken to the nearest hospital with serious injuries. Fatigue behind the wheel is a recurring problem for all professional drivers, and especially truck drivers.

In practice, the particular work demands of long-distance transportation often interfere with normal rest. Transportation industry labor practices around the world include working long hours, often at night, not having regular hours, little or poor sleep, and starting work early.

In the United States, around 20% of accidents and deaths involving long-haul trucks occur between midnight and six in the morning, the period of greatest fatigue for the driver.
