Relatives of the missing person are missing at the beginning of the investigation of how much faster the law enforcement actions are 15min mentioned that he had taken some steps on his own as recently as last week.
After calling 112 and reporting the accident, the family members received the circumstances of the investigators who registered the data, added Lina Velykytė to the database of wanted persons (for example, in case she arrived at the airport as a passenger), but other operational and procedural search actions were postponed until next week.
At that time, the relatives performed several tasks independently, in addition, they asked for the help of firefighters.
“We contacted two main hospitals in Vilnius, we found out that Lina was not admitted there”, – 15min said the brother of the wanted psychologist from Kaunas.
In addition, relatives living in Vilnius were asked to go to L. Velykytė’s house. The rented accommodation was locked, no one opened the door, the light was not on. Realizing that such an external inspection is not informative, people soon turned to the firefighters and rescuers, asking for their help in inspecting the apartment in the capital’s Viršuliški district more thoroughly. It is confirmed that the tenant is not inside.
True, there is no specific data on when the 36-year-old woman was able to leave the house for the last time.
The only thing that is clear is that the family missed her on November 1, when her mother did not get Lina to arrive at least on the last bus to the Pasvalis district, where she was scheduled to visit her father’s grave.
The initial report about L.Velykytė’s disappearance was registered by the Kaunas County Police, and on Wednesday evening the case was finally transferred electronically to the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat (VPK) and entrusted to the territorial commissariat officers to investigate.
“These days, the pre-trial investigation in the case of the disappearance of a person continues. Work plans are drawn up, available and additional information is being checked. Various procedural actions are being carried out”, said Tomas Bražėnas, the representative of Vilnius VPK, who said that he could not detail the actions or their results further.
The police representative said that at this stage of the case, the investigative actions are organized somewhat differently than in cases of other high-profile disappearances, when it is appropriate to “comb” forests, open areas, river banks, and civilian residents also voluntarily join the mission. “In this way, the person is not being searched for, at least for now, the officers are working with other methods,” T. Braženias said.
The police are not asking for additional help from the public, at least not yet, at the time the brother of the missing woman appealed to people on Facebook earlier this week. “Lina Velykytė, b. disappeared. in 1987 (36 years old). The last known place of residence is Vilnius. Height about 170 cm. From October 31 unable to connect. If you have seen someone or can provide any information, please inform the police by phone 112 or send me a message.
Whoever you can, share this post,” Donatas Velykis wrote on the social network.
It turned out that Vilnius Čijunės Sugihara str. L. Velykytė, who lives and works as a psychotherapist, may have been missing since around October 25. This date was the last time the woman was contacted by members of her family who live outside the capital – located in Kaunas, Pasvalis district.
It was then that Lina mentioned that on Halloween weekend she was going to visit the graves of her relatives according to family tradition. But on All Saints Day, the woman did not come. She was expected to arrive by bus, but there was no guest from the capital among the passengers of the late, last bus of the day. On the evening of November 1, L. Velykytė’s brother, from Kaunas, turned to the Kaunas County Police. Donatas Velykis’ report about his sister’s disappearance was registered that Friday evening at 20:45. That same late night, after midnight on Saturday, Kaunas police investigators registered a detailed initial report.
During the long weekend, the Kaunas officials did not take any particularly active actions, and the case remained with the Kaunas County Police even on the weekdays at the beginning of the week, even though the initial investigation data showed that signs of the woman’s disappearance should first be looked for in Vilnius.
It is true that the impression that law enforcement is supposedly “doing nothing” in such circumstances can be deceptive, as officers have their own mostly non-public methods of operation that take away resources, but do not always bring quick results.
