ACCESS TO INFORMATION IN THE FIELD OF ECOLOGY SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ALL CITIZENS OF SERBIA

The head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia, Jan Bratu, said that it is crucial for the future of Serbia that its citizens have access to information and be involved in all aspects of environmental protection policy.

“Access to information from the field of ecology, the involvement of citizens in decision-making, as well as the right to legal protection of citizens in this area are key aspects of good governance and environmental protection policy,” said Bratu at the round table “Partnerships for the Green Economy – Strengthening the Green Economy culture through sustainable solutions, green practices and IT tools in order to mitigate climate change in Serbia”, which was organized by the Aarhus Center Novi Sad on Friday, October 4.

In his opening address, he told his brother that the Aarhus Convention is a pillar of support that the OSCE Mission provides in the field of environmental protection.

“I am convinced that it is crucial for the future of Serbia that its citizens are involved in all aspects of environmental protection policy and discussions on environmental topics, based on available information and knowledge,” said Bratu.

At the meeting, it was pointed out that for green inclusive growth it is important to cooperate and involve all actors in the green transition in Serbia in order to face climate challenges readily, and that it is especially important to educate young people as future leaders of the green economy, the Aarhus Center announced.

The Dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Boris Dumnić, said that the green economy is becoming an increasingly relevant factor in the modern world because it involves improving the state of the environment, efficient use of resources, reducing the emission of harmful gases, but also adapting to modern technologies that will enable the transition to a sustainable future.

“Faced with the global challenges of climate change, all of us, as a society and as individuals, have a responsibility to take steps towards creating a sustainable future. This task is not only a challenge – it is also an opportunity. An opportunity to improve our economy, transform our business practices and enable long-term sustainable development that will be based on ecological principles,” said Dumnić.

He pointed out that through innovations in technology that allow to approach problems in completely new ways, improve analysis and optimize practices.

“In this way, using modern technologies and IT tools, we are building a bridge between ecological sustainability and economic efficiency,” said Dumnić.

The manager of the Aarhus Center Novi Sad, Darija Šajin, stated that Serbia is threatened by climate change, and that the Aarhus centers have a role to cooperate with national, provincial and local authorities, the business community and other actors in Serbia in order to initiate initiatives in the direction of adapting to climate change. .

“Strengthening the green economy and adapting to climate change is not an exotic agenda, but should be a realistic, clear and achievable action plan. Governments, companies and communities around the world are in the process of providing solutions when it comes to adaptation, they are finding different innovative ways to adapt to climate change,” said Šajin, adding that non-governmental organizations have a very important role in this work.
