Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan, aged 20, permanently lost sight in his left eye during a golf tournament last September, informe Sky News. An accident that could cost him his career.
As the young man prepares to play his second shot on the third hole, a golf ball hits his face violently. On his Instagram accounthe says: “I turned back to the cart to put my club away, and that’s when I felt a ball hit me in the face. The pain went straight to my head, and I fell to the ground.. Emergency transported to the nearest hospital, caregivers administered fentanyl to the golfer to relieve his pain, before he was airlifted to another establishment. He underwent several surgeries and spent two weeks in intensive care. His fractured eye socket causes him to“excruciating pain”.
Quickly, dark thoughts invade the young athlete with a promising career. Jeffrey Guan had just been crowned double national junior champion. “To think that this accident perhaps signaled the end of my future in this sport was unbearable for me, I especially did not want all these years of hard work to be wasted”he confides.
He ultimately made the decision to pursue his golf career: “I have always shown perseverance and stubbornness, which is why I plan to continue to work hard and do everything possible to pursue my dreams”. He adds: “These four weeks were the most difficult of my life, but they made me grow mentally and I am now ready to overcome any obstacle”. Doctors estimate his recovery could last between six months and a year.
