With 25 percent, they are in second place behind Netflix when it comes to the question of which streamer people prefer. Looking at the overall market, the streamer would come third according to this survey and comes in at 18 percent. Netflix is ​​at the top, followed in the overall market by Prime Video. Sky and Wow are in fourth place overall with 10 percent, ahead of RTL+ and DAZN.

“Sky remains a synonym for high-quality sports entertainment. But the competition from streaming services shows that even established providers have to prove their innovative strength again and again. The future lies in the combination of exclusive content and high content quality – thanks to the success of the Bundesliga rights tender, Sky now holds all the trump cards,” says Handrik Fischer, CEO of One8y.

Television will remain a frequently used medium for most people in 2024

When it comes to media usage, television was still the most used medium in 2024, according to the survey. However, other media are catching up. While 55 percent said they use television most often, messenger services come in second place with 49 percent, closely followed by social media (46%). Streaming services reach 42 percent. One8y analyzes this: “Messenger services and social media, on the other hand, offer dynamic and interactive access to content that particularly appeals to younger age groups. So, in summary, television remains a key anchor for sports fans and the general population, especially during major live events. But the catching-up relevance of social media and streaming services shows that users’ attention is increasingly being divided between different channels.”
