The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced today that an Israeli hostage was killed in the north of Gaza, captured during an attack on October 7 last year.
A spokesman for Hamas’ armed wing said that after several weeks they had made contact with the fighters in northern Gaza who were holding the hostage. It was determined that she was killed in an area where the Israeli army operates, he said. He did not reveal the name of the female hostage or how she was killed.
The Israeli army neither confirmed nor denied the information
The Israeli army announced that they are verifying the information or the video of Hamas, in which the female hostage was allegedly killed. “We can neither confirm nor deny the information at this time,” the army announced. In addition to the dead female hostage, another one whose life is in danger is being held at the same place, the representative of Hamas said.
97 hostages are still being held by Hamas in Gaza
During last year’s attack, Hamas captured 251 hostages, 97 of whom are still being held in Gaza, including 34 who are believed to be dead, according to the Israeli military. Last November, Hamas released 105 hostages in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government is under increasing pressure from the domestic public to reach an agreement with Hamas on the return of the remaining hostages while they are still alive.
