According to the Israeli public television Kan, the agreement for the truce in Lebanon “is closed”. The broadcaster says that Netanyahu is studying how to announce it, but in the meantime Lebanon is suspending in-person lessons in the Beirut area until the end of December.

According to the Israeli media it would have been achieved the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon and now Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly busy figuring out how to tell the public. The news of the closed agreement was reported by the evening news of Kaan 11. However, the Lebanese media Lbci quotes a comment by the mediator Amos Hochstein according to which the news is “not accurate”.

According to the Israeli broadcaster, Netanyahu is about to have a security consultation with ministers. At the center of the discussion is the IDF’s freedom of action in the border area between Syria and Lebanon. Furthermore, according to sources close to the American delegation, Israel has received guarantees from Washington on freedom of action in case of violation of the agreement. According to the Lebanese newspaper l’Orient du Jour, the truce would however be temporary, pending wider negotiations on a definitive ceasefire.

But in the meantime the war continues: even today Israel launched a series of airstrikes on southern Beirut, as reported by the Lebanese news agency Nna. In some videos, smoke can be seen rising above the area after raids that took place in the afternoon. Some journalists reported loud explosions, with car alarms blaring on a Beirut street. According to some sources, around 12 buildings were hit.

Earlier in the day, the NNA had already reported two attacks in southern Beirut, which occurred about an hour after the Israeli army issued Online evacuation alerts. After the various attacks this week, Lebanon also decided to suspend in-person classes in the Beirut area until the end of December. The Education Minister announced “the suspension of in-person teaching” in private schools, technical colleges and higher education institutions in Beirut and parts of the neighboring Metn, Baabda and Shouf districts starting Monday “for the safety of students, educational institutions and parents, in light of the current dangerous conditions”.
