A woman who lost a pregnancy at 22 weeks filed a complaint with the Prahova Police, accusing the doctors at the Obstetrics-Gynecology Department of the Ploiesti County Emergency Hospital of not giving her “adequate medical care”.
In reply, the officials of the health unit state that the woman was properly cared for, but at the time she presented herself at the hospital she was about to have an abortion, and the state of her pregnancy was aggravated by the fact that she is Rh negative.
“On July 21 this year, around 12:15, the police officers from Section no. 4 of the Ploieşti Police were notified, by calling 112, by a woman, stating that she had lost a pregnancy several days ago, and the doctors had not provided her with adequate medical care.
The police took note of the complaint, and from the first checks it emerged that on July 9 this year, a 34-year-old woman from the municipality of Ploiesti went to a hospital in the municipality, complaining of pain in the abdominal area. Later, the next day the woman in question would have given birth to a fetus, and the medical staff informed her that it would have died”, the Prahova County Police reported.
The case, investigated by the police
The representatives of the maternity hospital in Ploiești state that the police officers from Section no. 4 continues the investigations in order to establish the factual situation and take legal measures, adding that the woman was directed to address the competent institutions regarding the norms of professional ethics and medical deontology.
The hospital where the woman presented herself is the Ploieşti Maternity Hospital, a department of the Ploieşti County Emergency Hospital. The officials of the health unit reject the accusations that the woman was not adequately cared for.
“22-week-old fetus stillborn”
The medical director of the Ploiesti County Hospital, doctor Andrei Ilinca, declared for News.ro that the woman arrived at the hospital with a pregnancy of 22 weeks, with imminent abortion and negative Rh. She was on her fourth pregnancy. The diagnosis was that of imminent abortion, Rh incompatibility, suspected urinary infection.
“The 22-week-old fetus was stillborn, it was an abortion. Children are considered newborn after 26 weeks, and after 24 weeks in exceptional cases it is viable. There is no question of medical error or lack of care”, declared Andrei Ilinca.
