American actor James B. Sikking, known for the series “Hill Street Blues”, died at the age of 90, after a battle with dementia.

James died “peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family,” representative Cynthia Synders said in a statement cited by The Mirror.

From 1981 to 1987, James took on one of his most popular roles, playing Lieutenant Howard Hunter in the police drama series Hill Street Blues.

The actor is survived by his wife Florine Caplan, son Andrew, daughter Dr. Emily Sikking and four grandchildren, Lola and Gemma Sikking and Hugh and Madeline ‘Maddie’ Milam.
