Some YouTube users with an adblocker are now seeing black screens at the start of a video. It appears to be Google’s latest weapon against people trying to avoid ads.
Google continues to use tricks to try to thwart people with adblockers, so that they simply see ads or purchase a YouTube Premium subscription that removes all ads.
Users report now that they are seeing black screens at the start of videos. That probably has to do with a new experiment from Google, to incorporate advertisements directly into the video stream.
Adlockers seem to be able to recognize these embedded advertisements and block the content, but they cannot yet prevent users from seeing a black screen that can last for up to twenty seconds.
How does the blocker block
While Google is working hard to make adblockers as difficult as possible, the makers of these adblockers are of course not sitting still either. It is not inconceivable that they will have a solution for this in the foreseeable future.
