Women who have a high-pitched voice and men with a deeper voice are considered to be less religious, Canadian scientists concluded after completing the latest study published in a medical journal. Evolutionary Psychology.
During the study, subjects listened to two versions of electronically modified male and female voices. Scientists have found that women think that a man with a deeper voice is more likely to be unfaithful. Men said that women with a high imposted voice had a higher chance of cheating on them.
The link between voice tone and infidelity is explained by hormones, say researchers from McMaster University in Hamilton.
“Men with high levels of testosterone (the male hormone) have deeper voices, and women with high levels of estrogen (the female hormone) have high-pitched voices,” explains scientist David Feinberg.
According to expert team member Gillian O’Connor, infidelity has an emotional and financial cost, and often leads to family separation.
“That’s why, during evolution, we learned how to avoid potentially unfaithful partners, which is like a protection mechanism for us,” concluded O’Connor.
