“Adventures in bed?” Nintendo unveils Alamo, an alarm clock with gamification

As many gamers wait with bated breath for the next-generation version of the Nintendo Switch, what Nintendo has released is hardware other than the Switch 2.

Alarmo, which operates as a real alarm clock, is that hardware. As it is Nintendo and not another company, it goes without saying that this product is not just an alarm clock, but a clock that gamifies the process of waking up in the morning and is useful for both gamers and non-gamers.

Alamo plays Nintendo’s famous game music as an alarm sound, uses sensors to detect the user’s movements in bed, and responds with sound effects from various games.

This means that when you get out of bed, a little fanfare music will play to celebrate your success before turning off the alarm. But if you keep lying in bed, the alarm gets louder and more aggressive.

Alamo has a built-in alarm clock feature inspired by popular Nintendo games, including Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Ring Fit Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Each title contains seven alarms (called ‘scenes’), each with its own unique combination of music and sound effects. In addition, other game-based alarms, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Let’s Get Together, Animal Crossing, etc., will be added through free online updates.

For reference, Alamo does not simply wake the user, but plays sleep sounds and records sleep data to help users relax and fall asleep. The chime can sound every hour on the hour, even during the day.

Alamo will be released first in the US and Canada for $99.99, and will be released in other countries in early 2025.
