Advertisements coming to cars?

There is more and more information that some producers have found another way to make money.

Walk around the city and you will be bombarded with advertisements. The same will happen when driving a car where you will be “attacked” by attractively tailored advertisements on roadside panels. If you turn on your phone, computer or television, the same thing will happen. Well, why wouldn’t it happen as soon as you sit in the car?

As it says Index.hr, that’s exactly what someone at Ford seems to have thought of, which could soon start rolling out personalized ads in the infotainment systems of future models.

Back in February 2023, Ford filed a technology patent for such a system in the US. It was only recently released and indicates that it can display advertisements on the vehicle’s infotainment system screen. And it doesn’t stop there, as it could play ads through the car’s speakers and tailor ads based on the route of travel, historical data collected from the driver, and even the conversations of the passengers inside the car.

In a conversation with Auto NewsomABI Research analyst Abu Majah said the targeted ads could make vehicle owners feel like Ford is invading their private space, leading to a negative perception of the brand. “In general, people don’t want to be sold or marketed to cars,” he said.

Ford has not confirmed whether the technology described in this patent will go into production. According to Ford representative Alan Hall, “filing patent applications is a normal part of any strong business because the process protects new ideas and helps build a robust intellectual property portfolio.”
