The fastest chip of the moment will get a cheaper version. Read here how smooth the Snapdragon 8s Elite is and what we expect from it.
Snapdragon 8s Elite leaked: smooth and affordable chip
Many Android users like to choose a phone with a good price-quality ratio. They are looking for a device that is relatively affordable, but has decent specifications. Examples include the Google Pixel 8a, Samsung Galaxy S24 FE and OnePlus 13R.
These smartphones are rarely equipped with the fastest chip of the moment, but more often an affordable version of it. The most powerful chip in Androids now is the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Those who prefer not to pay the top price can soon also opt for the Snapdragon 8s Elite: a cheaper and (slightly) less efficient chip.
The arrival of the 8s Elite has been announced by the usually reliable Lekker Digitial Chat Station op Weibo. He says that the processor is most similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That was the fastest chip of last year. In the Geekbench 6 test software, the chips achieve almost the same score, with the 8 Gen 3 just ahead.
So you are sacrificing something compared to that chip, but in terms of price the difference promises to be much greater. The cheaper the processor, the lower manufacturers can make the price. The brands Redmi and iQOO – which mainly sell affordable smartphones – will reportedly first work with the new chip.
The source also shares the technical specifications: there is one Cortex-X4 core which runs at 3.21GHz, three performance Cortex-A720 cores at 3.01GHz, two efficiency Cortex-A720 cores with a speed of 2.80GHz and two more efficiency Cortex-A520 cores at 2.02GHz. Certain cores may still be improved.
