AFP: Israel continues to strike the southern suburbs of Beirut for the fourth day in a row

Beirut – This morning, the southern suburbs of Beirut became the target of another wave of apparently Israeli airstrikes for the fourth day in a row. Shortly before, the Israeli army called on residents to evacuate from the vicinity of specific objects that, according to it, are used by the militant Lebanese movement Hezbollah. This was reported by the AFP agency with reference to footage from its own television. According to The Times of Israel, the Lebanese media also write about the Israeli strikes on the capital.

“To all residents of the southern suburbs, specifically in the Ghubajri neighborhood (…) you are in the vicinity of facilities and interests related to the Hezbollah movement, against which the Israeli Defense Forces will take strong action in the near future,” he announced before the strikes in the usual wording in Arabic on the X Network Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adrai called on residents to evacuate.

The Israeli army has not yet commented on today’s strikes, and reports of damage or possible casualties were not immediately available.

The southern suburb of Beirut called Dahiya is considered a stronghold of Iran-backed Hezbollah, and the entire area has been the target of frequent strikes by the Israeli army against facilities and members of the movement’s leadership since the end of September. Most of the residents have since left it, but some of them return there during the day to check the condition of their houses or businesses, writes AFP.

On Thursday, the Israeli military announced that it had struck more than 30 Hezbollah facilities, including command centers, weapons depots and other infrastructure, in the southern suburbs of Beirut since Tuesday. At the same time, he claims that the movement deliberately places these objects among the civilian population, which it uses as human shields.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began last October 8. Hezbollah then began shelling the north of Israel with rockets in support of the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas, whose militants had attacked the south of Israel the day before. The conflict in Lebanon escalated on September 23 this year, since then Israel has carried out numerous airstrikes on Lebanese territory and on October 1 launched a ground operation in the south of the country. According to the Israeli government, its main goal is to enable the return of about 60,000 evacuated residents to their homes in the north of Israel.
