after 31 years the “alleged” perpetrator could be released from prison

31 years after the crime in which James Jordan lost his life, the case could be completely reopened in North Carolina: Daniel Green, sentenced to life in prison, could be exonerated

31 years after the killing of James Jordan, father of Michael, star of the Chicago Bulls and icon of world basketball, a twist completely disrupts the crime scene: Daniel Green, the man accused of shooting the father of the American sports legend, sentenced to life imprisonment in the trial that was supposed to shed light on the entire case, he could be exonerated from the accusation of having been the material executor of the crime, effectively completely disavowing the prosecution’s theory during the trial hearing.

A story with many dark sides

There have already been rumors of this for some years inaccuracies and inconsistencies linked to the episode in which ‘s father lost his life Michael. Who was officially killed following an attempted kidnapping while he was in his son’s red Lexus, intent on resting at a gas station in the county of Robeson, in the North Carolina.

In reality, since the days immediately following the incident there were many doubts which insinuated themselves into a reconstruction that never really convinced the agents: the body of James Jordan he was found alone 11 days later that damned one October 6, 1993 (day to which the crime is traced back) by a fisherman who was near a lake in the South Carolina, hundreds of kilometers from where the events occurred. And he was found hanging from a tree, in a clear state of decomposition.

Only once after being cremated the recognition of the body was made official, since it came jaw removed precisely to carry out the necessary tests to give a material face to the victim. The discovery of the Lexus, also at a considerable distance from where the body was found. Only then did federal agents confirm the actual disappearance of Jordan Sr.

The impact his father’s death had on MJ

Being the father of Michael, who was about to start playing the season following the first threepeat of the Chicago Bulls, public opinion was very impressed and influenced by the story. Among other things, the same player arrived a few weeks later announce his first retirement from playing basketball, evidently still shaken by the tragic death of his father.

Which, by the way, it was huge baseball fan, and for this very reason Jordan junior decided a few months later to attempt a career in professional baseball, to honor his memory as much as possible. Only in the spring of 1995 Jordan will decide to return to basketball, taking back his legacy and bringing the Bulls to win three more titles from 1996 to 1998 (the iconic photo of Michael who cries on the parquet, clutching the ball to himself, after the decisive match of the Finals ’96 contro Seattle, on the day on which the Father’s Day).

The judges’ hypothesis: did Green “cover” for someone?

31 years after the events, the Judge Gregory Weeks he admitted that a circumstantial review of the trial will be carried out in the coming weeks, with the possibility that Daniel Green can be released from prison. The other accomplice in the crime, “friend” Larry Demery (That testified against Green, declaring that he was the one who pulled the trigger during the robbery), he finished serving his 30-year prison term in the summer of 2023.

His testimony has always been subject of much discussion: for many it was one “coverage” aimed at the true instigators and perpetrators of the crime. There was already talk at the time of gambling debts incurred by Michael, to the point that his father’s death served as a warning for the restitution of the huge sums of money lost. It’s no coincidence that Jordan family he never reported James missingalmost as if all the Bulls player’s family members were aware of the problems of Michael.

The first “answers” within a month

Green he never denied his involvement in the affair (the Bulls champions’ ring was found at his great-grandmother’s house NBA 1991, that MJ had given to his dad), but only following the phases that led to James’ death. That evening he said he had attended a barbecue at a friend’s house, and although many confirmed this theory, they were never interviewed as witnesses.

Hence the doubt that the murder was indeed a sort of “score settling” or warning towards Michaelwhich like any crime committed by criminal people needed a scapegoat. Which would also explain many other events that occurred during the trial: the discovery of a gun in the home of Green which also does not coincide at all with the one he would have shot, there lack of blood inside the car (perhaps clean, but some traces remain…), the phone calls made a few hours before his death by Jordan targeting people linked to drug trafficking.

Green, who is serving a life sentence, may have “covered” all this. Now, however, he could be released from North Carolina State Probation Commission.
